Today Apple released the first commercial dedicated to Verizon users who have long waited for an iPhone compatible with CDMA networks underlying communications of this operator, a few weeks ago Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 4 Verizon, in addition to some new software side (mounts the native firmware 4.2.5 with some unique features) also has the hardware side improvements such as, for example, a new antenna position that corrects the problem of loss of reception.

We just got a quick hands-on session with the Verizon iPhone 4. And, you guessed it, it’s just like a normal (GSM) iPhone 4. There are some subtle differences though, which we’ve displayed in the pictures and video. We’ll cover this more later on, but right from the start we can see there is a personal hotspot feature and a slight change to the antenna design (four breaks in the metal band, instead of three). As we were told in the press conference the antenna was optimized for CDMA, but it wasn’t significantly changed or fixed.

The leaks suggested that the Verizon iPhone would have slightly relocated buttons, and it's true -- as you can see in the photo above, the newly revised CDMA antenna notch has pushed the volume and mute controls down a hair from GSM version. That means a lot of cases -- Apple's current bumpers included -- won't fit properly on the Verizon version, although many third-party cases feature an open slot for the buttons that might still work. Either way, we'd bet Apple and third-party manufacturers are scrambling to have compatible cases in stores before the February 10th launch date -- just make sure to check yours first if you're switching from AT&T.via
